For the past three years, retired entrepreneurs and soulmates John and Rachel Pack have been harnessing the power of music in the battle against hunger. They had always been involved in charity work, but when they retired to San Felipe, Baja California, they opened a club which plunged them into the music scene. They taught themselves to play guitar and bass, and a year later they hosted their very first food drive festival in San Felipe.

John and Rachel Pack

The first one was such a success that they decided to take it on the road, inviting local musicians to jam with them and collecting food for the food banks in each town they played in from Rosarito to La Paz launching the Blues Against Hunger Society.

Last year John and Rachel brought the Blues Against Hunger jam to the House Of Blues San Diego, collecting hundreds of pounds of food to donate to the San Diego Food Bank with the help of good friend and local musician Chet Cannon.

This year Blues Against Hunger takes the cause on a 6-month, 9-state blues music food drive tour of American craft brewers from June through November calling it the Brewers & Blues Tour. The first stop on this musical tour will be in San Diego’s north county in the city of Vista. Many of San Diego county’s heavy-hitting musicians will be coming together in the fight against hunger on June 14th with an All-Star jam session at the Aztec Brewery in Vista. Already confirmed artists include: Stoney B., Big Al Schneider, Anthony “Fallbrook Kid” Cullins, Leilani Kilgore, Karl Dring, Michele Lundeen, Martin F. Tramil, Chill Boy Raffesberger, Sweet Sixx, Zach Cole, and from Tijuana; Arturo Cardenas.
